THICK SKIN

Location: Los Angeles, United States

Status: Built

8075 is located on 3rd St. in West Hollywood , one of the most prominent shopping districts in Los Angeles. Our client approached us with the idea of activating the streetscape by transforming the existing garage into multiple retail spaces. Building Transformation

Materials/ Colors

The minimal material palette was carefully selected to aesthetically complement the existing building, while highly contrasting it, to bring more attention to the new addition.

Other Design Concepts

The Green Cube:

To bring attention to the proposed retails we thought of floating a cube Scaffold holding Planters facing the street, providing a buffer between offices and the traffic. The cube then hovers above the roof space, creating a green shading structure, and becomes a green wall in the inner courtyard.

The Veil

Creating a shading structure at the roof garden level that embraces the building like a veil, bringing attention to the proposed elevator shaft that would bring visitors to the new roof space. The veil borrows its curvilinear aesthetic from the architectural language of the existing building

Nested Gem

Placing a hidden gem in the courtyard that would surprise visitors once they are at the roof garden.
